Studio ADI has released a really cool video featurette on the creation of the Alien Queen in Alien: Resurrection.
The fourth entry in the Alien movie franchise, Resurrection was helmed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children, Amélie), with a story by none other than Joss Whedon himself. Although the movie is not particularly considered as being the best of the bunch in the sci-fi/horror franchise (for me personally, that title belongs to Aliens), it was certainly miles better than Alien 3, which I loathed on so many levels.
Not only did it feature Ripley's (Sigourney Weaver) "resurrection" after the character was killed off in ignominious fashion in the previous film, but the movie also brought back the awesome Alien Queen from director James Cameron’s Aliens. Oh, and it also starred Ron Perlman and Winona Ryder in the role of a synth who doesn't want to murder people, for once.
Here’s what Studio ADI said about resurrecting the Xenomorph Queen and adding a nifty twist to the egg-laying creature for Alien 4:
ALIEN RESURRECTION not only brought Ripley back to the big screen but marked the return of a "Queen" as well. Utilizing the original head from ALIENS (courtesy of Bob Burns), ADI's RESURRECTION Queen puppet was designed and built to perform on her back, giving the a character shackled and beaten look the script demanded.
