We're now a little more than a week away from the season premiere of Doctor Who, marking Peter Capaldi's second year of adventures in the TARDIS, and so far it's shaping up to be a rather epic ride. We know to expect the return of Missy (Michelle Gomez), as well as more Dalek adventures and the revival of classic villain Davros. We know to expect Zygons, the Judoon, ghosts, Vikings and, of course, a guest appearance by Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams.
The trailers for the season so far have been dazzling, but they haven't provided many clues as to how the season's overall arc will come together. Now a two-minute prologue to the season premiere is here to change that.
In the clip, the Doctor is back on a planet fans of Who's 50th-anniversary celebrations will be quite familiar with: Karn, the same planet where Eighth Doctor Paul McGann drank the Elixir of Life provided to him by the Sisterhood of Karn, and transformed into the War Doctor (John Hurt). Our Doctor's not here for the Elixir, though. There's something more mysterious at work. Check it out:
So, who is this mysterious enemy who's sent an invitation, and what did the Doctor give Ohila, the head of the Sisterhood? We don't know, but it sounds like the Doctor could be marching to his end. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time, would it?
Doctor Who returns Sept. 19 at 9/8C on BBC America.
