Intergalactic hero Hal Jordan is getting a fresh origin story next year that brings a more grounded sci-fi reality to the legendary universal guardian.

DC has already ventured into the alternate origin arena with reworked beginnings for Superman and Batman inside their Earth One special editions, and now one of the Green Lantern Corps' most storied members scores a deserving new start.

Written by Corinna Bechko and matched with writer/artist Gabriel Hardman, Green Lantern: Earth One depicts Jordan as a bored astronaut-scientist employed by Ferris Galactic. During a mission hunting down prime asteroids, he discovers one of the fantastic Green Lantern Corps' finger fashions, enabling him to manifest himself as a proud crusader of the cosmos hunting down maniacal machines called Manhunters.

SYFY WIRE chatted with Bechko and Hardman at NYCC last weekend to get some emerald light shined on this return to the Green Lantern's core concepts, revitalizing the Silver Age character for a modern audience, making difficult choices, and having Hal heading toward future heroism.
