Deadpool 2 has finally arrived in theaters, and if you're a fan that means at some point this weekend (at least once) you'll be heading out to take in the Merc With a Mouth's latest adventure, meet Cable and Domino, and just generally revel in Deadpool insanity. Your Deadpool fun doesn't have to stop with the film itself, though, because SYFY WIRE spent some quality time chatting to members of the cast and crew about the making of the film and more.
Though Deadpool 2 features the return of original star Ryan Reynolds (who also co-wrote the film and served as a producer) and original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, there are also plenty of new faces. Among them is director David Leitch (John Wick), who, for his first superhero film in the director's chair, took over the franchise from Tim Miller.
As you can see in the video, SYFY WIRE's Mike Avila sat down with Leitch to talk about the challenges that came with making the film, in particular how he managed to continue to capture the particular tone of Deadpool on the big screen. Leitch's secret in that regard is actually pretty simple: Work with Ryan Reynolds.
“There’s no one who understands the Deadpool universe better than him, and like what’s gonna work in this crazy world," Leitch said. "And so it was really great to have somebody who embodies Deadpool and knows, you know, what makes it tick.”
For more from Leitch, including how he managed the film's elaborate fight scenes, check out the video above or below. Deadpool 2 is in theaters now. Keep checking back with SYFY WIRE all weekend long for continued coverage of Wade Wilson's newest blockbuster.
