It took 14 years for it to finally happen, but director Brad Bird is back at the helm of Incredibles 2, the much-anticipated Pixar sequel to the 2004 superhero hit.
The computer-animated film about a family of superheroes led by Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), which includes their kids, Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner), and little Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile), picks up right where the original left off.
But figuring out what story to tell about the family was a challenge for the creative team, especially in light of just how many superhero films have come out since the first Incredibles came out and raised the bar for the genre.
SYFY WIRE Sr. Producer Tara Bennett sat down with director Bird and producer Nicole Grindle to talk about where they started with the sequel, and how they discovered the hook that distinguished Incredibles 2 from the superhero pack. We also get them to tell us the super that didn't make it into the movie, but they wish did.
Incredibles 2 is in theaters this Friday, June 15. Keep checking back at SYFY WIRE this week for more from our chats with Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, and Samuel L. Jackson.
