The Z fighters are back, and this time for a pure, straight-up fighting game. Dragon Ball FighterZ is an all-new title coming in 2018, but unlike the recent Xenoverse franchise, this one is more akin to Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, or more specifically like BlazBlue and Guilty Gear (Arc System Works is developing the title for Bandai Namco, having worked on those fighters) than some kind of hybrid RPG. In the first reveal trailer, we see many of the classic favorites from the franchise, including series lead Son Goku, Frieza, Gohan, Buu and Cell.

The game, coming in 2018, is a 2.5D animated fighter, with art that's made to look like it's leaping right out of the animation. While only characters who were featured heavily in Dragon Ball Z were featured in the first trailer, it's reasonable to assume we'll be seeing characters from every generation of the franchise, especially the currently ongoing Dragon Ball Super series (Frieza does go gold in the trailer). The trailer also reveals a brand-new feature, 3 on 3 fighting matches. It's difficult to see exactly how that's going to take place -- co-op? tag matches? -- especially because we see multiple characters on screen during that portion of the trailer, but if it mimicks the chaos of some of the series' best fights, we're all for it.

Check out the trailer below, and stay tuned for more about Dragon Ball FighterZ as we get closer to the game's release.
