Along with helping Marvel heroes and surviving shipwrecks on mysterious islands, Evangeline Lilly is also an author. So what’s the latest with her children’s series The Squickerwonkers?

We caught up with Lilly (Lost, Ant-Man) and artist Rodrigo Bastos Didier at New York Comic Con to talk about the project, and Lilly touched on the importance of children’s books and the influences they can have on young readers as they’re (hopefully) developing a lifelong love of reading. She also talked about the creative process of turning Didier’s super-creepy original drawings into something that would work for the story — while not freaking out children.

One of the most interesting tidbits? Didier reveals his unique route to joining the project — he enjoyed the book so much, he posted some of his own concept art for the story to Lilly’s Facebook page. Lilly saw it, liked it, and a partnership was born.
