The series follows the adventures of Gary Space (voiced by Rogers), an astronaut who embarks on a mission to not only find where the universe actually ends, but if it even exists at all. He'll be accompanied in his serialized space-faring adventures by his planet-destroying alien sidekick Mooncake (also Rogers) and Commander (and "sort of an engineer") Quinn (Tika Sumpter).
Final Space features a brilliant voice cast that includes Doctor Who star David Tennant, Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Keith David (The Thing), Shannon Purser (Stranger Things), Gina Torres (Firefly), Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Andy Richter (Santa Clarita Diet), Conan O’Brien (who produces the series via Conaco) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy).
SYFY WIRE's Tara Bennett sat down with Rogers, Sumpter and showrunner David Sacks to talk about Final Space. Rogers chatted about the pitch he made based on an old cartoon he created years ago called Gary Space (which he calls the worst cartoon ever constructed) that he released on his YouTube page and how it all finally came about a few years later.
Discussion also touched upon the characters; how the animated show was recorded (some were able to record material together in the booth, others, like Tennant in London, had to be recorded individually); and the episodes they can't wait for us to see. Check it out:
