Check out this extended dose of Syfy's new 12 Monkeys TV series, adapted from Terry Gilliam's 1995 movie starring Bruce Willis. This initial 9-minute setup for the pilot episode lays out the premise of a catastrophic plague that wipes out most of humanity and introduces the character of James Cole, a convict who is unwittingly used as a time-traveling pawn to streak back from the year 2043 to 2015 to discover the genesis of the devastating virus.
Here we get a preview of the specific tone and temperament of the series with Cole, played by X-Men's Aaron Stanford, first encountering the vital virologist Dr. Cassandra Railly, played by Amanda Schull. It's an intense introduction, given a familiar Walking Dead/Terminator vibe and capitalizing on those franchises' roving action narratives while unraveling a greater mystery in the face of a horrific global disaster. Syfy's 12 Monkeys is produced by Universal Cable Productions with Atlas Entertainment, who produced the original Hollywood movie, and also stars Kirk Acevedo, Barbara Sukowa, Emily Hampshire, Noah Bean and Tom Noonan.
Have a look and tell us if you're ready to face humanity's grim future when 12 Monkeys premieres on Friday, Jan. 16, at 9/8c.
