As we barrel toward the white knuckle sequel Fury Road next year, it’s the perfect time to take a look back to when Mad Max was born.
A vintage interview with director George Miller and star Mel Gibson (so young!) has surfaced thanks to Eyes on Cinema, with the two genre heavies talking about the series circa 1985 — right around the time Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome hit the big screen. If you want a peek at how the franchise was perceived right in the thick of it all, this is it.
They touch on everything from the story’s conception to Miller’s directing style and the practical stunts and effects needed to bring the barren world of Max to life. It’s a fascinating interview, especially as we prepare for a changing of the guard with Tom Hardy taking up the mantle when Fury Road hits on May 15, 2015.
