Many of you have heard the news surrounding Marvel and Netflix's collaboration. Their upcoming shows, focusing on the Defenders (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage), will be shot in New York City. The studio believes the city is as vital to the properties as the characters themselves. Over the years, Vancouver has been the cheaper stand-in for the the Big Apple, but not for Marvel. They want their shows to be as authentic as possible.
Wednesday, Disney, Marvel, Netflix and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo held a press conference announcing their plans. According to Marvel, "Filming is set to begin in the Summer 2014 and will create at least three thousand jobs in New York State including up to 400 full time jobs. The project will include nearly 60 one-hour episodes focused on the four Defenders characters."
Not only is this a creative triumph, it's an economic blessing to the community that influenced these characters. You can see what all the excitement's about in the following video. It features highlights from the press conference and gives a breakdown of what Defenders fans can expect.
