Lou Ferrigno's Hulk is returning to TV, only not in the way you might expect. Yes, I am assuming you were somehow expecting a reboot of the series from 1978, still starring Ferrigno, to grace American TV screens once again. You weren't? Well, were you expecting Ferrigno and a slew of other celebrities to be teaming up for a reboot of Battle of the Network Stars?
Battle of the Network Stars has been off the air for nearly 30 years, but in our current climate of reboot and sequels, even Hollywood game shows are getting a second chance at life. The new version will be very similar to the original, challenging teams of celebrities to school field day activities like tug-o-war, obstacle courses, kayak relays and other challenges sure to entertain audiences. The biggest change coming to the show, though, is that they won't simply be sticking to their name. Network stars aren't the only ones showing up to do battle. They'll also be pulling celebrities from currently airing cable shows, as well as plenty of nostalgic corners of the TV universe.
Teams will include TV Sex Symbols, Variety show stars, Sitcoms, Cops, TV Kids (all grown up, of course), Doctors, Lifeguards and TV Families. But the ones we're really interested in are, of course, the Troublemakers and the Sci-Fi Fantasy teams.
The Troublemakers include the likes of Vivica A. Fox and John Barrowman, the latter obviously repping for The CW's Arrowverse rather than his more heroic Doctor Who character. The Sci-Fi Fantasy team, meanwhile, includes the aforementioned Lou Ferrigno, Vinnie Jones (Arrow, Galavant), Charisma Carpenter (Buffy, Angel), Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journey) and Jill Wagner (Teen Wolf, Blade).
The series is scheduled to run for 10 episodes and will premiere on June 29 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
