Though his biggest claim to fame might be The Wire, character actor Jamie Hector has also dipped his toes into the sci-fi waters over the years. So what’s the difference in grounded drama and genre projects?
We caught up with Hector at New York Comic Con 2016 to talk about his resume, which includes stints on Heroes, The Strain, Bosch and The Wire, and he opened up about what it’s like to try and make these stories seem real. When he first started picking up sci-fi projects, he said it was a chance to “use [his] imagination in a different way” while providing some nice geek-out moments along the way. He also looks back at his tenure on Heroes, and how they pulled off some of those mind-blowing (for the time) effects shots.
He also touches on his approach to project selection, and finding a way to tell a character-driven story within a sci-fi or supernatural framwork, and trying to play those fantastical situations in an honest way.
