"Blue collar" isn't often a term associated with the king of the seven seas, but for Jason Momoa, it's a perfect summation of his take on Arthur Curry in the upcoming Aquaman. The movie's cast stopped by Conan during San Diego Comic-Con to chat about the project, whose first sopping wet trailer dropped during the convention.
"He's a blue collar man," said Momoa. "He was raised by his father. He worked on bikes and trucks and his dad was All-American. He's definitely someone you can sit down and have a beer with. You can't do that with Superman."
"Superman's a d***," interjected a joking Conan.
What it comes down to is this: the Man of Steel's usually hanging out in his crystallized Fortress of Solitude out in the middle of the Arctic; it's hard to get to! Aquaman, on the other hand, is just chillin' at the bar, wanting to have a few drinks and a good time with friends.
In the film, Arthur Curry is of two worlds, born to a human lighthouse keeper father, Thomas Curry (Temuera Morrison) and a demigod queen of Atlantis mother, Atlanna (Nicole Kidman). As such, he doesn't feel worthy to take the Atlantean throne when his half-brother Orm/Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) threatens to wage a war against the surface world.
To celebrate the movie's liquidity (get it?), everyone on set enjoyed a nice pint of Momoa's own Guiness blend. The actor is such a fan of the beer, that he's actually got two custom blends.
"I met my wife over a pint," he said. "I work really hard and I train really hard and at the end of the day, the dog wants a bone."
Directed by horror auteur James Wan, Aquaman dives into theaters everywhere December 21.
