Jean-Claude Van Damme has a new series coming out next week on Amazon Prime titled Jean-Claude Van Johnson where the kickass Muscles from Brussels plays a parody of himself as a famous action hero and martial arts star who, in reality, is an aging secret agent whose entire film career is a smokescreen for his undercover operations.
Sounds like a pretty fun premise, doesn't it?
The series is slated to debut on Dec. 15 on the streaming service and SYFY WIRE's Tara Bennett recently sat down with Van Damme and his lovely co-star Kat Foster (Franklin & Bash), who plays Van Johnson’s handler Vanessa... and his ex with whom he’s still in love. They chatted about how the long-in-the-works series was originally set up as a straight action show that evolved over time into something much different... and being kicked in the face (note to self, protect the face at all costs),
"I was just remembering that crazy thing that happened," Foster recalled during the interview after Van Damme prodded her on to tell the story. "Jean-Claude and I had a scene where he was sort of showing me… I had to do some kicks and he gave me a pointer that made my kicks so high that I kicked him in the face. And he was really like a good sport about it."
Van Damme also touched upon how proud he really was about the show, saying "If something bad happened to me, God forbid, it's kind of nice to have this show as the last memory of me because I've done a lot there in terms of an actor that we never saw before so that’s going to, I believe, surprise people."
Have a look at the rest of the interview above and let us know if you'll be tuning in for Jean-Claude Van Johnson.
