The world of Pacific Rim had changed a lot by the time Uprising came around, and in this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip we caught up with the cast and crew to talk about the challenges of reintroducing the world to Jaegers and Kaiju.
Ahead of the digital and Blu-ray release on June 19, we have an exclusive look backstage during the shooting of Pacific Rim: Uprising, featuring interviews with stars John Boyega and Cailee Spaeny and director Steven DeKnight. The three walk us through what’s happening behind the scenes of the first meeting between Jake and Amara, who are on the run from the authorities in a makeshift Jaeger.
The interviews help dig a bit deeper into the mentality of the characters, how they use the introduction of Amara as a window into this world, and how it has evolved in the decade or so since the events of the first film. The story walked an interesting tightrope, focusing on a generation of young heroes who are training even younger heroes to be future Jaeger pilots. We also get to see Jake and Amara’s first meeting from behind the camera, as they pieced together all that running and jumping to arm Amara’s Jaeger.
Pacific Rim: Uprising was a wild thrill ride but opened in March to mixed reviews. The film made $230 million worldwide against a $150 million budget.
