If you’re wondering why you’ve never heard of Firefist in Marvel’s X-Men comics, it’s probably because he was killed off two decades ago. But this weekend, Firefist, aka Russel "Rusty" Collins, is getting a new lease on life in Deadpool 2.
Paper Planes and Hunt for the Wilderpeople co-star Julian Dennison is portraying Firefist in Deadpool 2, and he’s got quite a foul mouth in the movie. While the comic book incarnation of Firefist had a rebellious streak, he didn’t exactly have the R-rated lines that Dennison repeats in this film. SYFY WIRE’s Mike Avila recently caught up with Dennison, who admitted that all of the swearing made him feel “so dirty and impure.”
Dennison was accompanied by Zazie Beetz, who plays Domino in Deadpool 2. But most of the focus here was on Dennison’s outrageous lines from the film. According to the 15-year-old actor, he would never say most of those things in real life. But he did end up being very good at cursing, much to his surprise. He also recalled ad-libbing some of his dirtier lines in the movie.
While Dennison and Beetz didn’t dive into the plot of Deadpool 2 in this clip, they did touch upon Dennison’s fighting style within the film. Beetz and the rest of the cast had to deal with heavily choreographed routines and moves, while Dennison’s "jazz hands" were simple by comparison. Let’s just say that there was a lot of CGI involved, and there wasn’t a lot of movement required from Dennison.
