Kevin Smith is probably best known for his films like Clerks and Mallrats, but he’s also a huge comic nerd — so we asked him and his comic shop gang about all the hate in geek culture these days.

Smith and the cast of his Comic Book Men TV series were on hand at New York Comic Con, and they chatted about all the haterade that fans seem to be chugging these days. The gang, who man Smith’s comic book shop Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash in New Jersey, took a pretty enlightened stance on the hate culture. Put simply: They don’t understand why fans can’t enjoy the fact that comics are huge now and just have a geeky good time.

Considering these guys have been living and breathing comic books for decades, fans could do well to heed a bit of the advice.

Check out the interview below and let us know what you think, and don't miss the Oct. 23 season premiere of Comic Book Men on AMC, airing at 12:40 a.m.
