Writer of The Wicked + The Divine and the new Darth Vader series Kieron Gillen is riding the wave of having one of the most brilliantly original creator-owned series in print as well as helming a new chapter in the story of the greatest villain of all time. With the latter, Gillen has created a fall in rise story, wherein he takes Vader from the end of A New Hope and shows how he, through a political chess game of gaining power, ascends to the diabolical presence in Empire Strikes Back. In the former, The Wicked + The Divine, Kieron’s series combines music, fandom and mythology to construct a captivating world that has gained a massive following of comic-book fans and critics alike.

During the latest New York Comic Con, Kieron sat down with us and addressed questions about his approach to writing the iconic villain, Darth Vader, how Vader’s situation relates to the television series House of Cards and how he, personally, would describe The Wicked + The Divine.
