We already got to see Mike Colter’s small-screen version of Luke Cage go barreling through a bevy of thugs in the SDCC clip, and now Netflix has dropped the full trailer for the series. Want a peek at Power Man’s origin story?
The full trailer includes a heaping dose of Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple, who has been a mainstay across the entire run of Netflix’s Marvel fare, while also laying some groundwork for Cage’s mission to clean up the streets of his neighborhood. There’s a good bit of bullet-bouncing action and punching (keep an eye out for that slo-mo shot of Cage taking a hit to the head), and we get to see the visceral approach showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker is bringing to the action scenes.
But it’s the atmosphere and mood that truly steal the show. Coker knows what he wants this show to look, feel and sound like — and he’s nailing it (check out our recent interview with Coker here). Yes, this feels like the same universe as Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but you can distinctly feel that this is Luke Cage’s little corner of that world.
The full, 13-episode season of Luke Cage drops Sept. 30 on Netflix.
