Witness the awesome spectacle of the sun in this hypnotic time-lapse video. NASA released a breathtaking new view of our favorite star using images edited together from the Solar Dynamics Observatory to celebrate its fifth anniversary. It captures the sun's enormous flares, eruptions and explosions from the period of June 2010 to February 2015, snapped through a variety of visual wavelengths at the rate of one frame per eight hours, then condensed down to three minutes.
It's a surreal sensory experience suggesting only a mere fraction of the phenomenal forces occurring just 93 million miles from home. Slip on some shades and have a look.
