To build some buzz for the debut of Netflix’s new love letter to the supernatural films of the 1980s, the streaming service has dropped the first eight minutes of Stranger Things. Spoiler alert: It looks really good.
The series looks to take more than a few pages from Steven Spielberg’s 1980s playbook, focusing on the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As his friends, family and local police search for answers, they get pulled deeper into a conspiracy involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and a mysterious little girl. So, yeah, all your favorite supernatural flicks from a few decades ago thrown into a gloriously fun blender.
The opening scene below does an excellent job of setting the stakes, as you meet the main characters and even get a peek at the mysterious Big Bad. The series comes from Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines) and stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton and Matthew Modine.
The show has been garnering solid reviews ahead of its debut, and it sounds like a nostalgia-drenched thrill ride. The full season drops this Friday. Until then, check out the extended clip below and let us know what you think:
