This fall, executive producer J.J. Abrams and director Julius Avery are taking moviegoers back to World War II. But Overlord isn’t a typical war flick, because there’s something perhaps more frightening than Nazis on the eve of D-Day; a group of American paratroopers are about to encounter horrifying zombies that stand between them and the success of their mission.
SYFY WIRE recently caught up with Overlord cast members Wyatt Russell, Iain De Caestecker, and John Magaro as they expressed their admiration for both Abrams and Avery. But they also spoke at length about Freddie Joe Farnsworth, the senior military advisor who was tasked with getting them into shape to believably portray soldiers.
“[Farnsworth] gave us a lot of good life lessons,” recalled Magaro. “Just having that [boot camp] experience was so amazing and so valuable for us as a team, as actors, and forming a unit.” Then Magaro shared, shall we say, a colorful way of expressing an important motto that Farnsworth bestowed upon them: “Un**** your buddy.”
De Caestecker noted that Farnsworth really pushed the actors to their limits, but he also stood up for them on the set when they needed an advocate. The actor also shared a slight spoiler about his character, in terms of something that he needed to be fitted for on the set. The reactions of his castmates and his own body’s acceptance of the illusion helped make it more real for everyone.
Overlord will be out in theaters on Friday, Nov. 9. For more intel about the movie, check out the entire video, then leave a comment for us below!
