We at SYFY Fangrrls are big fans of Roxane Gay. Not only is she an author of phenomenal fiction, short essays and memoir, she also teamed up with poet Yona Harvey to co-write Marvel's World of Wakanda, a Black Panther spinoff comic revolving around two of the members of Wakanda's Dora Milaje.

She sat down with us recently for an extended video interview to discuss the recent release of Black Panther (aka the thirst traps that are Killmonger and M'Baku) and how she learned about the real-life basis for zombies - from her mother!

We also delve into the difference between writing comic books and novels, as well as the current state of the comic book industry and what needs change in terms of getting comics in the hands of a writer's audience. Plus there's a tease of what Roxane is working on for the future, including an adaptation of one of her own sci-fi short stories!

Watch the interview in full below.
