Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming back for a sixth season on ABC, but it will almost be time for Comic-Con 2019 when the series finally gets new episodes next summer. At this year’s Comic-Con, cast members Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, and newly promoted series regular Jeff Ward were on hand to announce the return of Clark Gregg... as the director of the sixth season premiere. When SYFY Wire spoke with the cast, they expressed excitement about Gregg’s upcoming episode.
"There's a shorthand you've already got with him," said De Caestecker. "He understands our characters, he's got so much energy."
“He's just so good at it," added Elizabeth Henstridge. "It's so nice to have him. We have directors now that we've continued to have over the past five years. So, a lot of our directors we're really close with. But when it's one of us on the other side of the camera, it's just so fun."
"I think it makes it easier from the viewpoint that he's been with these characters as well," said Henry Simmons. “It's not just some director coming on and viewing these characters from the outside. He's worked with us as an actor. So, he can bring a different perspective to each of our characters and the transition we're going through in the sixth season.”
The castmates were careful to avoid any Season 6 spoilers, but Wen told us about the sense of finality surrounding the end of the fifth season, while Ward teased the ongoing hazing from his castmates. For more details, watch the video below!
