After a successful first season, Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville will fly back to TV this winter for a Season 2 that will expand on what was set up last year. Fans were able to get a sneak peek at what's in store at the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel, but SYFY WIRE also caught up with the cast and producers to learn more about what viewers can expect.
Now that MacFarlane knows people are interested in the story as much as the jokes, he told SYFY WIRE they're planning to explore heavier topics sometimes to help make the world feel real.
"I think there's an argument to be made that sci-fi is more equipped than any other genre to do that," he said.
With the groundwork laid during the first season, the second season will be able to both go bigger and focus on smaller things as well according to cast and producers. There will be more adventure, with the season described as big and epic. At the same time, they will also be going deeper into the characters and their relationships with each other.
