Comic-Con International is still one of the biggest conventions in the country, but it’s become increasingly difficult for fans to get in. The truth is that the show has long since outgrown the San Diego Convention Center, and it now regularly expands into the Gaslamp District for attractions outside of The Con. The good news is that you don’t need a badge to enjoy these events, and some of them even let fans step into the worlds of their favorite shows.
During SDCC 2018, SYFY WIRE’s Whitney Moore was dispatched to enter AMC’s Deadquarters, the official activation of The Walking Dead. While there, Whitney got to experience something that she jokingly described as a “dream”: the meat grinder from the Scavengers’ junkyard, complete with a recreation of Jadis to oversee the destruction of her tribe-turned walkers.
There may not be fun slides in the zombie apocalypse, but there was one here. However, the bottom of this slide was filled with performers in full walker makeup, which was kind of surreal.
Afterward, Whitney stopped by FX’s attraction for Legion, the series loosely based upon the X-Men character known as David Haller. As envisioned by Fargo’s Noah Hawley, Legion is one of the best superhero shows on TV, and easily the trippiest. How could FX possibly recreate those stunning visuals and give fans the sensation of experiencing David’s beautifully fractured mind? We can’t show you the entire Legion experience, but if you watch the video, you’ll get a pretty good indication of how it was accomplished.
