The stars of Star Trek Beyond have taken to the red carpet at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the highly anticipated (and, IMHO, excellent) movie, and we have captured the magic on video for you, below. It turns out that Shohreh Aghdashloo isn’t just the actress who plays Commodore Paris: She’s a fan as well.

Iranian actress Shohreh Aghdashloo told Blastr that she and her three brothers used to watch Star Trek when it first aired in the 1960s. However, they viewed a version translated into Farsi, the most widely spoken language of Iran, formerly known as Persia. And now her brothers are in awe of her success.

As someone who carries the name “Paris,” it’s likely that the Commodore is the progenitor of Lieutenant Tom Paris and his father, Admiral Owen Paris, who appeared on Star Trek Voyager. (Note: That’s not the only easter egg found in Star Trek Beyond.)

Aghdashloo’s role is smaller than I would have liked. After all, it’s not every day we see a mature woman on screen. But though her screen time is minimal, she does an excellent job portraying someone whose conduct is becoming a Starfleet officer.

As Aghdashloo says, “I’ve done a great job.”

Check it out.
