Freeform’s new mermaid drama series (with a twist) Siren took New York Comic Con by storm over the weekend by screening the pilot episode to the lucky folks in attendance at the show’s Saturday panel.

While we can’t show you the episode (however, you can read our panel report right over here), we did sit down with the cast to chat about the show, with stars Eline Powell (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword), Fola Evans-Akingbola (Game of Thrones), Alex Roe (The 5th Wave) and Ian Verdun (Lucifer) explaining why Siren is different from what we’ve seen before.

Hint: It doesn’t have vampires of any kind (sparkling or otherwise), nor does it feature werewolves or zombies.

The 10-episode dark fantasy series (this is not Disney’s Little Mermaid or even Splash, as you guys can glean from the footage below) will have a whole new take on mermaid mythology and lore, where they actually are the apex predators and not the cutesy singing creatures from the movies. Well, there will be singing, but not how you think.

Hold your breath and dive deep...

Siren will premiere on Freeform on March 29, 2018.
