Solo: A Star Wars Story had its highly anticipated world premiere Thursday night in Los Angeles. To celebrate the occasion the stars — as well as the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon — came out in droves to attend the Red Carpet for the latest Star Wars film. Set in a galaxy far, far away, or course.
SYFY WIRE’s Katie Wilson was on hand to chat with stars Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo) and Emilia Clarke (Qi'ra) about all things Solo, including the moment that made them go “OMG I’M IN A STAR WARS MOVIE!”
“I think the first time I experienced that was in my screen test for the role,” Ehrenreich told us. “I was in the Millennium Falcon and we did a screen test with Chewie and that’s where… and I had pants on that had kind of like a Corellian blood stripe on the side so that’s where I really felt like really, this is Star Wars now.”
For Clarke, it was the first moment she walked on set. “I went ‘oh, my God. I’m in a Star Wars movie,’” the Game of Thrones star said before adding: “When you’re in the Star Wars universe, you don’t need to do too much acting because the sets are so insane. And everything about it is just like… it’s all there for you.”
When he was asked about whether or not the original Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford, had visited the set or if he’d given him some advice, Ehrenreich replied: “He didn’t visit the set. I had lunch with him here in LA before we started shooting, and he said ‘if anyone asks, tell them I told you everything you needed to know, and you’re not allowed to say anything.’”
Check out our video for interviews with David Dastmalchian (Blade Runner 2049) and Leonardo Nam (Westworld); with Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), David Alan Grier (In Living Color) and original Lando Calrissian actor Billy Dee Williams sharing their excitement over Donald Glover (Atlanta) playing a young Lando and more. Including some of them giving us their best Chewie impressions.
