Star Trek: Discovery is a show full of surprises. From last season's Mirror Universe reveals to the shocking deaths along the way, Discovery has kept us on our toes with no signs of stopping.

But no twist was more mind-blowing than the ones delivered to actors Ethan Peck and Anson Mount when they found out the characters they auditioned for, and ultimately landed, were none other than Spock and Christopher Pike.

"It was so hard to wrap my head around the fact that they chose to cast me as Captain Pike," Mount tells SYFY WIRE FANGRRLS. "I played Jesus one time. It was easier to wrap my head around that."

"In the beginning, I was like, 'This is an impossible task!' And I had so much anxiety and kind of panic about it," Peck says. "I just feel so lucky, ultimately. It's such an incredible opportunity. I feel like I'm in the center of the simulation kind of thing, like how can this have happened to me? It's just unbelievable."

Check out the entire video as SYFY WIRE FANGRRLS speaks with Peck and Mount about learning the truth behind their roles, as well as Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz about the upcoming — and no less unexpected — journeys coming for their characters, our favorite "space boos" Lt. Paul Stamets and Dr. Hugh Culber.

Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS All Access January 17.
