Fans of the ‘70s gel-filled, black-trunk-clad action figure, rejoice – because the teaser trailer for Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters is here. The animated series – produced by Netflix and Hasbro Studios – looks set to breathe new life into the beloved character, who's enjoyed a bit of renaissance in the last few years.
So what can we expect from the series? Well, by the looks of the teaser, our muscled hero gets to cover up his trademark swimmers with a nifty-looking superhero suit while fighting baddies alongside pals Nathan "Wingspan" Park and Ricardo "Omni-Mass" Perez.
The story sees Jake "Stretch" Armstrong (voiced by Scott Menville) and his two high school buddies get accidentally exposed to experimental chemicals that give them all super-stretching abilities. Stretch seems to be very much the leader of the pack, while Wingspan boasts the power to grow and retract stretchable wings, and Omni-Mass gets the ability to change his size and mass.
Originally a Kenner toy that launched in 1976, Hasbro announced its plans to relaunch the character at the New York Toy Fair in 2016. As well as getting the TV treatment, Stretch and company are also being turned into comic book series by kid-friendly comics supremos IDW Publishing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comics will be based on the Netflix cartoon and share the show's executive producers and head writers, Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt. Art will be provided by Nikos Koutsis, an Image Comics veteran with a hand in Savage Dragon, Invincible, and Mighty Man.
Also featuring the voices of Steven Yeun, Ogie Banks, Wil Wheaton, and Felicia Day -- Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters will begin streaming this fall on Netflix.
