At SYFY FANGRRLS, we are all about celebrating women in genre — whether that's our favorite female characters on-screen, the ladies who geek out about them as much as we do, or the women who have a hand in bringing them to life.
Television has been changing the media landscape for the better when it comes to complex portrayals of women, and this year's FANGRRLS panel at the ATX Television Festival in Austin was dedicated to discussing all of the "Women Who Defy" on the small screen — in sci-fi, fantasy, and genre as a whole.
We were joined by an absolutely epic panel of powerhouse creators: Emily Andras (creator/showrunner for Wynonna Earp), Sera Gamble (co-creator and showrunner for The Magicians), Carina McKenzie (showrunner for the new Roswell, New Mexico coming to the CW), and actress Maddie Hasson (star of hit web series Impulse).
In case you weren't able to attend ATX this year, fear not: we've got the entire panel for you to watch below. Find out how each panelist first experienced iconic genre stories, as well as what made them want to get into making stories about defiant women.
