WATCH: SYFY FANGRRLS talks to NYCC cosplayers about changing con culture and the rise of girl power

Whenever you're at a comic convention, chances are you've seen fans taking advantage of the atmosphere to dress up, or cosplay, as one of their favorite characters. And more and more each year, fans are coming up with all kinds of ways to pay costumed tribute to their fictional — and even sometimes real-life — faves. But has the culture around cosplay evolved at all now that the popularity of these cons has totally skyrocketed?

SYFY FANGRRLS wanted to find out, so we spoke with female cosplayers at this year's New York Comic Con to learn about how con culture has changed, as well as the newly adopted rule within the past several years that cosplay is not consent.

We also wanted to hear their thoughts on how the latest slate of female-fronted superhero and comic book films has changed the landscape of cosplay, especially for female fans. Check out the full interview below!
