If you're a comic book creator and you name your beloved characters after the world's most important Renaissance Italian artists, then you should probably be a pretty darn good artist in your own right. Well, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator and Heavy Metal editor/founder Kevin Eastman is certainly that, and we've got video proof below!
Though Eastman's style has been admittedly more influenced by Jack Kirby than Donatello, he's been drawing Renaissance-monikered ninja turtles professionally since 1984. And in this live drawing of Leonardo -- everyone's favorite mask-wearing, katana-wielding mutant reptile -- you can see the muscle memory is entrenched in Eastman's able right hand. It's electric to watch, no doubt, like witnessing something come alive right before your eyes -- and the intensity of the music we've paired only adds to the excitement. Although all that seems to have somehow eluded the lucky kid camping out in Eastman's convention booth!
