If you're like us here at SYFY WIRE, cartoons are a sacred subject and an oft-traveled corner of the geek galaxy, replete with childhood memories of brimming bowls of sugary cereal and lazy Saturday mornings.

These days, classic cartoon characters like Snagglepuss, Marvin the Martian, Scooby-Doo, Yosemite Sam and The Flintstones are getting fresh makeovers and crossovers into the DC and Marvel worlds, and more are on their way in 2018. And Hollywood is always finding weird ways to resurrect a beloved cartoon property into a live-action of animated feature film with various levels of success and reception.

But sometimes the current flows the other direction and animated series are often created based on what appears on the silver screen. We've shaken the branches of fandom to ferret out some of the best examples of this reverse engineering and have chosen 7 of the most effective (and a bit controversial) offerings. From Beetlejuice and The Real Ghostbusters to TaleSpin and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, you're sure to find a favorite adaptation in this animated assembly.

Check out our colorful list in the video below and tell us if you think we've left any glaring picks out of this collection!
