There was lots to love in genre this year, from wonderful characters to under-rated TV series. As a result, an incredible number of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror movies and TV shows in 2018 have stuck with us as the months have passed. Jackie Jennings and SYFY WIRE associate features editor Caitlin Busch revisited their favorites and why they stood out from all the rest in this weekend edition of SYFY WIRE Blast.
Right at the start when Busch was asked about her favorite film, the immediate one that came to mind was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This animated feature was fantastic for lots of reasons, including its stunning art. Busch and Jennings also both loved Avengers: Infinity War, and those weren’t the only Marvel movies on their list. It might feel like ages ago, but Black Panther to Jennings really set the tone for what came next when it was released at the beginning of the year.
Horror also had a great 2018. A Quiet Place was unforgettable, and Jennings loved Hereditary – minus the last 15 minutes! Of course, horror also had a place on TV, with The Haunting of Hill House earning a mention from Jennings and Busch.
To get rid of the horrific chills, TV also provided some worthwhile shows with Big Mouth and The Good Place. As a bonus, Jennings and Busch mentioned their love for Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 as well.
That just scratches the surface of what was great in genre this year. What were your favorite genre TV and movies from 2018? Share with us in the comments!
