It's not often a web series gets to make the jump to film, but Carmilla was afforded that very luxury after three seasons. Natasha Negovanlis and Elise Bauman reprise their roles of Carmilla Karnstein and Laura Hollis, respectively, for the feature-length movie that debuts on Oct. 26.
As we found out in the NYCC interview below, the transition was freeing, since the web series is told through a stationary web cam video journal, and the film isn't limited by that convention.
"It's been such a gift to be able to explore these characters in a little more of a three-dimensional way," said Negovanlis. "It's been really fun to get to take our time a little more, and to get to see them with coverage."
"Just blow up their world a little bit," added Bauman.
The movie takes place five years after the duo staved off the end of the world and moved to Toronto. When Carmilla starts to slip into her own vampiric ways and Laura gets strange dreams, they'll need to re-enlist their friends from Silas University for help.
With new characters, action scenes, and a totally different style of recording, The Carmilla Movie is sure to be a treat for fans. Check out our interview with Negovanlis and Bauman below to get all the bloody details.
