After werewolves, vampires, and zombies, the afterlife is now all the rage on TV. Following the success of The Good Place on NBC, TBS — which will soon air its hotly anticipated animated space opera Final Space (February 26) — is getting in on the game with its upcoming angelic anthology comedy series titled Miracle Workers, slated to air later this year.
Created by Simon Rich, Miracle Workers stars Steve Buscemi in the role of God, who is described as having "a full-blown midlife crisis." He is joined by Daniel Radcliffe, who will play a "low-ranking angel" named Craig, as well as Geraldine Viswanathan (Eliza) and Karan Soni (Sonjay).
The premise of the series follows two angels who are working in the offices of Heaven Inc. When God decides he wants to bring about the End of Days (see: midlife crisis above), two angels try to change God's mind by betting him that they can perform their greatest miracle yet, which is to help two humans fall in love before he pulls the plug in the next two weeks. One can surmise that if they fail in their angelic mission, it's bye-bye humanity.
This series sounds like it's definitely going to be one to watch!
SYFY WIRE's Tara Bennett caught up with Rich, Viswan, athan and Soni to discuss their first geeky loves. Whereas Viswanathan and Soni share a deep love of Friends, what got Soni into the whole geekdom thing would be some VHS copies and a collection of toys from the Star Wars movies. As for Rich, this one confesses that he's a massive Simpsons fan and would use episodes of the series in the writers' room as "models to break stories."
