Books are gateways into other worlds, especially when they fall under the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. With Halloween creeping ever closer, it's time to fill up your genre reading list with the hottest titles of 2018, but don't worry, you won't have to do it alone. We're here to help!

SYFY WIRE's Jackie Jennings and Preeti Chhibber got together for a rundown of what they're reading right now and why you should be reading them, too.

Can they interest you in Jason Reynolds' Miles Morales YA novel from Marvel? It's the perfect thing to read with Into the Spider-Verse about to web its way into theaters on December 14. Afraid of spiders? No problem! How about a Game of Thrones prequel about the history of the Targaryen family? George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood may not be The Winds of Winter, but it's better than nothing and goes on sale on November 20.

Not a fan of Westeros? Fine! They've also got an Asian-inspired fantasy (For a Muse of Fire), a modern re-telling of Alice in Wonderland (A Blade So Black), and an anthology of Christmas-themed horror stories (Hark! The Herald Angels Scream).

There's a little something for everyone. Watch the video below for our full list of must-reads for fall 2018...
