The Parr family returns to save the day in Incredibles 2, which hits theaters this Friday. You've waited almost 14 years for this sequel, but wait just a little longer and take a two-minute crash course on the story behind Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Dash, Violet, and Jack-Jack.
For example, did you know that Brad Bird's idea for The Incredibles predated his directing of 1999's The Iron Giant? Oh, you didn't? Well, how about the fact that the sixth Pixar movie was meant to be a homage to the comic books and James Bond films of the '60s? Michael Giacchino's instantly-recognizable soundtrack was actually a hat tip to iconic Bond composer, John Barry.
When it hit theaters in 2004, The Incredibles redefined the superhero genre during a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was just a twinkle in Kevin Feige's eye. Over the years since its release, the film has become a cinematic classic, a priceless fixture of pop culture. Lines like "Honey! Where's my super suit?" and "You sly dog! You caught me monologuing!" are as commonly repeated as "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore" from The Wizard of Oz and "Hold on to your butts" from Jurassic Park.
"I [will make a sequel] if I can come up with a story that is as good or better than the first one," he said to ComingSoon.net in 2007. "If I can come up with a Toy Story 2 with The Incredibles, then I would do it in a second. I have pieces that I think are good, but I don't have them all together."
Well, the time has finally arrived and we've got the perfect way to refresh your memories of the first film...
