We've known for years that turtles could be teenagers or mutants (or both). Oh yeah, and they can be ninjas, obviously. And recently we found out they love art. But you may be shocked to find out they can also sing. It took 30 years, but we now have definitive proof that turtles can sing a song about turtles. It's all very meta.
This week the official TMNT Twitter account released a thoroughly nostalgic-feeling video of real turtles singing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song. Of course, it had to be translated into English (because they don't teach Turtlese in schools anymore), and it might just make your ears bleed, but this is still an impressive skill for our half-shelled friends.
Get ready, Top 40 charts, this just might be the song of the summer. If, like me, you're excited to rush home and get your turtle signed up for the next season of The Voice, prepare yourself for potential rejection. Not everyone can appreciate the beauty of these animals' vocal sounds.
As a turtle expert of sorts, I've seen my fair share of turtle talents. Some are good at escaping. Others have a penchant for finding the tastiest pizza or avoiding cars. One of mine ran away once (turtles can be deceptively quick), but never have I seen a turtle sing... until now.
But now that we know they can sing, who knows what other skills they might be hiding? Can they make coffee? Do they know how to speak whale? The possibilities are truly endless.
