Watch True Blood star bring Venom to life in amazing 17-min. film

Comic-book fans have been clamoring for Venom to get his own movie for ages, and this weirdly awesome short film might be the closest we’re ever going to get.

Starring Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) as journalist Eddie Brock, the 17-minute short film #TruthInJournalism was directed by Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom) and produced by Adi Shankar (Dirty Laundry).

Shot in a vintage-style black and white with French subtitles, the passion project makes some pretty direct homages to the 1988 flick Man Bites Dog. Framed around a faux-documentary style, the flick follows a film crew as they try to learn the ins and outs of Brock’s shady style of journalism.

The film is weird, but a lot of fun, and Kwanten’s version of Brock is pretty awesome — at least until he starts killing people as Venom. Also, be sure to stick around until the very end for another nice Marvel cameo.

What do you think of the short? Does this prove once and for all that we definitely need a standalone Venom film?
