Turns out, geeks notice when Luc Besson shows up. Even if he is being sneaky.
We assembled a group of talented designers together to create some artwork inspired by Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets — then had Besson himself slide in and offer his thoughts. Turns out that in addition to being a great director, the guy is also one heck of an art critic.
The art is pretty great, but then the designers had a chance to hang out and pick Besson’s brain about everything from the film to a few of his favorite movies (2001, Star Wars, Alien, and Blade Runner, in case you’re wondering). Besson also talks about how seeing Avatar pushed him to make Valerian all the more sweeping and insane to match it.
Check out the video below, and pay special attention to the woman’s eyes in the back when she realizes Besson has walked into the room. Priceless.
