It’s been a long wait, but Doctor Who finally returns this weekend — along with the U.S. debut of the new spinoff series Class on BBC America.

The show follows a group of students at Coal Hill Academy who battle alien threats and hold down the fort (or, err, the planet) while the Doctor is out roaming the universe. The show has a vibe that feels like Buffy the Vampire Slayer with aliens, so we chatted with the cast about stepping into a franchise like Doctor Who, and finding the truth and balance in a wild alien adventure juxtaposed with the emotional angst of a teenage story.

Our interview below features stars Fady Elysayed, Greg Austin, Vivian Oparah and Sophie Hopkins; as well as producer Patrick Ness. Editor's note: These interviews were originally conducted at NYCC, before our rebranding from Blastr to Syfy Wire. But, with Class premiering on April 15, we thought it would be the perfect time to share.

Check out the interviews below and let us know what you think:

Class premieres Saturday, April 15 at 10:10/9:10c on BBC AMERICA.
