Brooklyn-based artist Wendy Xu is the co-creator of Mooncakes, a new graphic novel rolling out in 2019 from Lion Forge Comics.

The paranormal romance anthology dates back to 2015, when Xu and her creative partner, Suzanne Walker, were pitching their webseries project around town. It's centered around a Chinese-American witch (Nova) and a werewolf (Tam), long-lost lovers who reunite after 10 years and must deal with magical abilities, families, bills, and an intimidating horse demon.

SYFY WIRE sat down with Xu to watch her sketch Nova and Tam and learn about her love of Hayao Miyazaki and the worlds he creates, her distinctive tastes in fashion, reading her first trashy romance novel, and what gives life to these manga-inspired LGBT fantasy characters.

Have a peek and tell us if Mooncakes might be a title you'd be attracted to when it drops next year.
