Jaws are still being picked up off the floor in Doctor Who fandom after the casting of Jodie Whittaker as the next Doctor last week — and now we have the thoughts of a few former Doctors. So, what do they think of the shake-up?

We caught up with Peter Davison and Colin Baker, the Fifth and Sixth Doctors of Doctor Who, plus former companion Sophie Aldred (Ace), to discuss Whittaker’s casting and the legacy of the series as a whole. They’re all fascinated to see what Whittaker will bring to the role, and hope fans will give the next season a chance to see how it plays out.

They also talk about the availability of vintage Doctor Who thanks to the BritBox streaming service; how the series has always had a bit of chaos behind the scenes; and how Classic Who pushed the capabilities of what could be done with the show’s limited budget. We also asked them the odds of the classic Doctors getting a chance to return in the next season (don’t hold your breath, but be sure to check out those audio dramas).
