We're back with our newest video installment of Who Won the Week. So many things happened this past week thanks to all those amazing new commercials (including movie and TV trailers) that were released during Sunday’s Super Bowl LII. SYFY and Netflix also took some of the spotlight with some great genre offerings being released this week, with one of them literally dropping out of the blue.
For our new edition, SYFY WIRE’s Jackie Jennings has partnered up with Who Won the Week podcast co-host Dany Roth to look back at what has been happening in the wonderful world of geekdom for the week of February 5-9. So sit back, relax, and check out what we have in store for you.
What grabbed our attention this week was the premiere of the third season of SYFY’s Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block and its meat man. Then we have Netflix’s new sci-fi series Altered Carbon (starring Joel Kinnaman), which garnered some controversy, negative reviews, and fan complaints. This, of course, led to an uptick in viewership.
Among the Super Bowl trailers that wowed us were the ones for Jurassic World, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Castle Rock, and Westworld Season 2, as well as the trailer for producer J.J. Abrams’ The Cloverfield Paradox. In an unprecedented move, the movie was dropped in its entirety on Netflix as soon as the Super Bowl ended. Oh, and let’s not forget that awesome Jeep Super Bowl commercial, “Jeep Jurassic,” with Jeff Goldblum.
