It could be hard to top the week prior in terms of exciting genre-related content, but there's one show that premiered to significant fanfare last week that's definitely a winner, at least in our humble opinion.

SYFY WIRE's Jackie Jennings and Karama Horne teamed up once again to break down the events of January 15-19, 2018, in our latest video version of Who Won the Week.

The CW's Black Lightning features an aging superhero who's forced out of retirement when local gang warfare threatens the safety of his teenage daughters, and it's off to a great start so far. Cress Williams brings a notable gravitas to the role of Jefferson Pierce, a high school principal by day and neighborhood vigilante by night.

Of course, Black Lightning himself isn't the only reason to get excited for this show -- there's also the promise of two more superheroes emerging in two daughters, Anissa (who will eventually become Thunder) and Jennifer (who will adopt the mantle of Lightning). Superheroing clearly runs in this family, but even if the show doesn't go that route right away there's still a lot to appreciate in the meantime -- like the fact that Black Lightning actually portrays teens as, you know, real teens. That kind of thing.

Do you agree with our choice for Who Won the Week? If not, let us know who your winner is.
