Watch The Simpsons spoof Game of Thrones with a mashed-up opening

If you were to make a list of the best opening credits on TV right now, the classic animated sequence of The Simpsons and the clockwork drama of Game of Thrones would both be likely contenders. Last night, The Simpsons used its legendary "couch gag" to merge the two, and the results are epic.

At the top of Sunday's episode, "Exit Through the Quik-E-Mart," the couch gag turned into an homage to and parody of the massive map of Westeros that dominates the Game of Thrones opening credit sequence. Familiar sights from The Simpsons come rising out of the map, accompanied by massive gears, just like the buildings that grow up from the landscape in the Game of Thrones credits.

Fans of the show will recognize Moe's Tavern, the donut shop and the Kwik-E-Mart as they emerge from the map, as well as the Burns mansion—listed here as "Burns Landing"—complete with Mr. Burns himself in kingly regalia standing on the stairs, with Smithers dressed as Burns' wizard lackey.

After a quick look at the nuclear power plant, the camera pans across the map one more time to the Game of Thrones theme song before focusing on the Simpson family's massive couch. The sequence then cuts back in to The Simpsons' traditional credits.

Check out the clip to see the epic awesomeness for yourself. Now all that's left is to see Family Guy do an episode in which Stewie decides to have Peter beheaded for conspiring against the crown.
